6th Fire Chief of the North Rose Fire Department

North Rose's physician and a World War I Medical Corps officer, Dr. Roney led the department for eleven years until his death in 1932.

Dr. Frank Fiero Roney, son of Adelbert and Josephine Roney, was born on October 18, 1876, in Ovid, NY. Frank was born to a working family and was awarded his medical degree in about 1912 in Buffalo, NY. It is likely that Dr. Roney attended the Jacobs School of Medicine, established in 1846. He married Estella Merrill on June 12, 1912, in Kendall, NY; Estella was a noted piano teacher. The Roneys spent their adult lives in service to the community of North Rose and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Roney was a Medical Corps veteran of World War I and served as a physician at the M.C. Debark Hospital, with service locations at Hoboken, NJ, and Ellis Island, NY. He achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was honorably discharged March 8, 1919.

Dr. Roney died on April 1, 1932, at the age of 55, of cancer. Estella died on April 24, 1968, in Palmyra. They are buried in the Rose Cemetery, Rose, NY.
