Glenn Arthur Mills Sr.

"While growing up he attended the North Rose School on Gray St. When he was about twenty-one, the family moved to Lyons for a year but returned to North Rose. On March 28, 1924, Glenn married Laura Chappell, who lived with her father Frank Chappell on Gray St; her mother had passed when Laura was sixteen.

After the wedding, the couple resided with Laura's father for several years. They then purchased a farm on the outskirts of the village which included a big white house and barns. The house is now pink and is a used car lot.

Glenn and Laura had three children, Glenn Arthur Jr. (Pee Wee), Robert Francis (Jug) and Patricia Mills DeAngelis. The family were active members of the North Rose Presbyterian Church where Glenn served as an elder, as did his brother Elery Mills. He was active in the community and belonged to the North Rose Fire Dept., Oddfellows Lodge and the Lions Club.

Glenn worked for Beacon Milling Company for thirty-three years until retirement. He also grew apples and cherries on his farm. At one point he decided it was a good idea to have turkeys, and pens were built of wire several feet above the ground. Apparently, some people needed turkeys to eat; so, in the middle of the night they would cut the pen wires and pull the turkeys down and steal them. Glenn was not happy about this, so he kept a loaded twenty-two rifle at the ready in his bedroom; wife Laura was not happy with that development.

Glenn passed on February 3, 1970, at age seventy-one. The Presbyterian Church had closed December 31, 1969, but was allowed to re-open for his funeral; he and Laura are buried in the Lovejoy Cemetery in North Rose.

He was kind, caring and a hard worker throughout his life."
