John Arthur Hill

J. Arthur Hill, son of Frank John Hill (1878–1942) and Flora Virginia Sidler Hill (1878–1959), was born in North Rose, NY, and died at the age of 33 while tending his family farm.

J. Arthur died during his tenure as the North Rose fire chief. He served as chief for eight years at a young age, which speaks to his dedication, aptitude and leadership; he is the fourth longest-serving chief of the fire department to date.

He was tragically killed due to an inadvertent discharge of a firearm while working his family's farm, just after receiving deferred classification from World War II military service in order to sustain the farm. It is ironic that J. Arthur would die at home soon after receiving his deferment.

The donation of property in his honor by his sisters, following the death of their mother Flora Hill, facilitated the construction of the current fire house located on Huron St. in North Rose. Five acres were donated at the current site, and a portion of that land was sold to the fire district, funding construction of the new fire house.
