A WWII combat veteran and garage owner whose sons David and Robert would both go on to serve as chief themselves.
Gerald 'Gerry' Devol Guthrie, son of William John Guthrie (1886–1974) and Grace Maude Devol Guthrie (1888–1973), was born on November 21, 1920, in North Rose, NY, and lived his entire life in North Rose. He married Esda Ruth Blauvelt on May 7, 1946, in Huron. Gerry died on Christmas morning 1978 at the age of 58.
Gerald served in World War II as an Army Staff Sergeant. He was a combat veteran, deployed to North Africa, Sicily, Italy and Germany.
During his life, Gerry worked at the North Rose Cold Storage, owned and operated an automobile service garage, and worked as a truck driver and mechanic.
