"Dick" Guthrie gave forty years to the department, and all three of his sons became fourth-generation firefighters.

Richard 'Dick' Maurice Guthrie, son of Maurice 'Abe' Guthrie (1914–1987) and Lula Mettler (1918–2006), was born on April 21, 1940, in Huron, NY. He lived his entire life in North Rose and died on October 19, 1998. Dick married Patricia Countryman in December 1960. He is buried in the Rose Cemetery, Rose, NY.

During his life, Dick worked at Skutt's Bean House, Speas Vinegar Works, XEROX, and retired from the Sodus Cold Storage.

All of Dick's sons went on to become fourth-generation firefighters, and all are veterans of the United States Navy.

  • Richard 'Ric' Guthrie — NRFD member 1989–1993, qualified Smoke Diver; later Captain and Training Officer, Grand Bay, Alabama; honorary NRFD member
  • Steve Guthrie — active NRFD member since 1983, serving in many leadership positions including Emergency Medical Technician
  • Mark Guthrie — joined NRFD 1987; later Firefighter, Captain, Asst. Chief and Fire Chief in Richwood, Texas, and Richwood Mayor; still serving as Richwood Fire Chief (2026)
